Kay’s Empathy

In today’s world, it seems that we are surrounded by people who care more about themselves than anyone else. Those who possess a high level of empathy are rare. Kay is one of those rare individuals. She is in her mid-seventies but she has the energy of someone who is much younger. How she chooses to use that energy is what sets her apart.

Kay looks for ways to meet needs outside of her own. She is determined to find those who could use a helping hand and then to offer it. Recently, she volunteered to dog sit for a family who needed some time away from home, served those she loved by cleaning their house, washing their clothes and running errands for them. She also gives her time to serve her local church and community. The number of her good deeds is too long to list.

Like any senior adult, she must navigate the aging process with all its physical and emotional challenges. Yet, she refuses to focus on herself and continues to give to those around her.

Let’s be clear, having empathy and acting on it is a choice. It’s not feeling sorry for someone, it is understanding their needs and then taking action to meet those needs.

Kay is a wonderful inspiration and example of someone who cares about others with her words and actions. Choose to raise your level of empathy and action and you will make a difference.
