Focus

It is easy for me to lose focus these days. With fear rising all around us and the tug of all the things going on in my life, I can easily forget to lead with purpose. It is tempting to lose sight of the self-discipline it takes to effectively lead others. This means truly investing in them with kindness.

Caring for and about others takes intentionality. It requires us to focus less on ourselves and more on those around us. This sounds “cliche’-ish” but it is not. Investing in those around us is a practical, effective and powerful way to grow our influence. It can be difficult and it takes consistency. This is called empathy and there is a ton of data that supports the effectiveness of those who demonstrate this leadership trait.

You have experienced it. It can be as small as offering a smile or a kind gesture. It can be as meaningful as listening to someone who is hurting. It may mean adjusting our tone or choosing our words more carefully. The opportunities are endless.

Take the time to focus on someone who needs your attention. Leaders who authentically care about others are those who make a difference.
